- Folic acid – Folic acid is important to prevent birth defects in the baby’s brain and spinal cord. It is advised to eat green leafy vegetables, enriched cereals, bread, pasta, beans, and citrus fruits during pregnancy to stay healthy and fit.
- Calcium – Calcium is also a very important nutrient for the proper development of the baby’s bones and muscles. The food sources like milk, yogurt, cheese, calcium-fortified juices, sardines or salmon with bones, green leafy vegetables, etc. are needed to maintain the calcium levels required in the body.
- Iron – Pregnant women need 27 milligrams of iron in a day. An additional amount of iron is needed by pregnant women in order to make more blood to supply the baby with oxygen. An iron deficiency during pregnancy may lead to anemia.
